They are greatly pampered, as all animals should be. We raise them on alfalfa mix hay, natural grain mixes, and treats from the organic gardens. Nearly all of the babies born here are hand-raised on a bottle, making for very gentle, easy to handle and train goats.
We have Nubians, the predominate bunch at the moment, and are currently moving into Boer goats. In the spring of 2002 we will have half Boer-half Nubians available.
Nubians are well known for their dual purposes of dairy and meat providers. Since we know what goes into these goats, we are never worried about what we are serving our family when we utilize our caprines for food, be it for meat or for dairy products. Boers are predominately used for meat. Our caprines are a healthy, hearty bunch, ready to entertain you, be your loving pet, chew your weeds, give you milk or meat or add valuable kids with fresh bloodlines to your herd.
Current stud fee is $100, which includes 7 days of doe care. Additional days of doe care at $3.00 per day. That care includes grain and hay as well as organic treats in season.
Our youngest Nubian buck is a yearling named Root
Root is spoiled rotten. He had a little bit of trouble when he was born, so he ended up in the house being pampered and fussed over while nursing on warm "mommy juice" (milk) and medicinal herbs. As a result, he's very tame and loving. Summer 2002 will see the arrival of his first children. His father is Buster, seen below, and we'll be using him as his dad's replacement.
Current stud fee is $50.00, which includes 7 days of doe care. Additional days of doe care at $3.00 per day.
Our other handsome Nubian buck is Beavis.
Beavis is a funny little fellow. He was given to us by some folks who just didn't know what to do with him. He was not hand raised, and a bit wild when we got him, but he tamed right down with us and is a sweet guy, and now he thrives on attention. That sweet streak is passed on to his children and grandchildren. His daughters are very good milk producers. He'll be 5 in March, 2002.
Current stud fee is $50.00, which includes 7 days of doe care. Additional days of doe care at $3.00 per day.
Our semi-retired buck is a Nubian named Buster.
He was our foundation sire, as we started out with just him and a Nubian doe, Mary Lou. Buster's mostly retired now, because he's getting older, although every once in a while if we have a doe with settling difficulties, we'll put her in with him and he still gets the job done. And there are still customers who love his big body and want some of his kids, so we do still breed him. He's somewhere around 13 or 14 years old. He's sired around 25 goats for us, most of whom were does that we have had or still have in production. Buster's daughters are good milk producers.
All 4H and FFA members receive a discount on breedings and purchases at Waltz's Ark, every day of the year. Just bring along something to show us you're a member, and we'll fix you right up!
All breeding does must be current on vaccinations and wormings before arrival for breeding services.
