Lib Dem Porn
Councillor disciplined. Continued >
STILL NOT NAMED!
March 26, 2001 11:25: A senior
Liberal Democrat Councillor has come under fire for the way he reprimanded a colleague,
caught repeatedly visiting pornographic Internet sites.
Chair of the standards panel, Lib-Dem Councillor
Martin Elengorn, rapped the unnamed Lib-Dem councillor after an internal investigation
by Lib-Dem colegues into his conduct
He consulted Lib Dem officers and informally
discussed his decision with the opposition councillors on the panel, but was criticised
for not bringing the matter to the attention of its independent members.
Councillor Douglas Orchard said lessons
should be learnt from the incident and, in future, all allegations of misconduct
should be brought before the panel.
He said: Looking from the public's perspective
it could be felt that this was dealt with in-house.
If the panel and its independent members
discuss the allegation, it would give more weight to any decision that was made.
The IT department that routinely monitors
council computers to prevent inappropriate access caught the senior Liberal Democratic
councillor.
Officers found that the Liberal Democrat
councillor had been accessing sexually explicit material for extensive periods,
late at night, at his home.
It was revealed this week that the Liberal
Democrat councillor had been using the councils e-mail address and server to access
the sites.
With the sensitivity recently regarding young children featured
on the internet, we demand to know the full details of lewed sites visited and,
the Liberal Democrat councillors name.
We await inside info from our mole in the
hole. Want to be a mole? Got hot news on local Lib-Dems?
